Initiative : Häfele establishes new subsidiary in Cambodia

Häfele has been active in the Cambodian market for more than a decade. With the increasing tourism in this south-east Asian country and its prospering middle class, the company sees a wide range of development opportunities – both for projects and also for local furniture and door manufacturers. Häfele officially started working in the capital city of Phnom Penh at the beginning of 2024.

"The Cambodian market is an aspiring star in south-east Asia, where we envisage many opportunities for the next few years. We are proud to be entering this market at an early stage and shaping its future together," says Stanislas Hug, Managing Director for Singapore & Cambodia, adding: "We are already working with several builders and architects on important hotel and residential projects where Häfele can offer the complete range of furniture fittings and door ironmongery, but also household appliances and sanitary wares. We have set ourselves some ambitious targets for the next few years."

The company wants to expand its position in the Cambodian market with its new subsidiary. "Entry into this market is a part of our regionalisation strategy, with which we want to carry out pioneering work in developing markets and build up close relationships with our partners at the same time," explains Dominik Fruth, Häfele regional director for south/south-east Asia.

Cambodia is a parliamentary monarchy with about 16 million inhabitants. More than half of the population is under the age of 25. The country, which is about half the size of Germany, has a border with Thailand in the west and north-west, Laos in the North and Vietnam in the east and south-east. It has been enjoying consistently high economic growth for several years. According to the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) GmbH, the construction sector is one of the most important pillars of the Cambodian economy.
