The Cambodian province of Siem Reap, cradle of the mythical Angkor archaeological park, has climbed to fifth place among Asia's best cultural destinations for 2026, according to Tripadvisor's annual rankings, the must-visit travel platform.

The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts has hailed this distinction, seeing it as shining proof of the growing global recognition of Cambodia and the exceptional value of its heritage. "This recognition confirms that Siem Reap is a renowned cultural and historical tourist destination, offering visitors from around the world unique experiences and unforgettable memories," the ministry stated in a press release.
On a global scale, Siem Reap holds the thirteenth position, trailing Singapore, which tops both the Asian and worldwide rankings. Tripadvisor, which bases its awards on the quality and quantity of traveler reviews collected over twelve months, poetically evokes the charms of Angkor:
"When the morning light bathes the vegetation-overgrown temples and ruins of Angkor Wat, a simple sunrise in Siem Reap becomes a profound event. These ancient structures form one of the world's largest religious complexes, with the 12th-century royal city of Angkor Thom as the star attraction."
This accolade comes at the perfect time for Siem Reap, which has been hard-hit by the Covid-19 pandemic that dried up tourist flows, as well as recurring border tensions with Thailand. It marks an encouraging rebound for the local economy after years of lean times.
Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1992, the Angkor archaeological park welcomed 955,131 international visitors in 2025, according to a report from Angkor Enterprise, generating more than $44.7 million in revenue.
