In Kep, the season opens barefoot on the sand at Coco Beach
From 6 to 8 November, Kep West kicks off the season with “Wind, Waves and a Beach Party”. A film on the beach on Friday. A full day on the water on Saturday, followed by a sunset barbecue with live music. Then half-price rentals on Sunday. Come for one evening or stay the whole weekend.

The rains are leaving. The sky clears, the air dries out and a steady breeze settles over the gulf. In Kep, November has always felt like a new start. For anyone who sails, it is the best time of the year.
Kep West picked this weekend to officially open the season at Coco Beach. The name of the event says it all: Wind, Waves and a Beach Party. Three days, from Friday 6 to Sunday 8 November, split between the beach and the Discovery and Sailing Center.
Friday: cinema on the sand at Coco Beach
The weekend starts slowly. At 6 pm a campfire is lit on the beach and the bar pours the first drinks. Once it is dark, around 7 pm, the film starts on a big screen set up facing the sea.
People settle onto the turquoise beach beds or into a deckchair. The rattan lanterns come on overhead. The children will probably be fast asleep in the sand before the credits roll.

Saturday: sailing and kayaking to the mangroves at the Discovery and Sailing Center
Saturday is for the water. The Discovery and Sailing Center is open from 8.30 am to 5 pm. In the morning, from 9 to 11.30 am, everyone picks their activity. Children aged 6 to 12 head out on Optimists, the small dinghies generations of sailors learned on. Adults choose between a sailing course and a guided kayak trip to the mangroves.

At noon everyone meets at The Wave for lunch, which is included in the day ticket. In the afternoon, from 2 to 4.30 pm, a second session runs for kids and adults alike.
Experienced sailors are not left out. Hobie Cats are free for them all day. These sports catamarans are fast. Expect to get wet.
The day costs USD 30 for adults and USD 15 for children under 12. Places are limited, so book early.
Saturday night: Coco Beach lights up
At 5.15 pm the center's boats sail past the beach. That is the signal. At 5.30 pm Coco Beach opens, entry is free, and the sunset cocktails start coming out on trays.

At 6 pm the barbecue gets going. Finger food at USD 25 per person, cooked by the chefs at stations set up right on the sand. A band plays live, guitars and vocals, a few steps from the water.

The setting alone is worth the trip. Woven lanterns hang from long wooden poles. Turquoise beach beds with orange cushions sit straight on the sand. Further out, the pier runs into the gulf as the sun drops into the sea

Sunday: every rental at half price
Sunday is for resting. Or for going back out. The Discovery and Sailing Center takes 50% off every rental, all day. A good chance to try what you didn't dare the day before.
