On November 28, 2025, Cambodia marked a major milestone in the development of French language education with the official inauguration of the National Center for French Learning. The ceremony celebrated not only a new educational institution but also the deepening of cultural, linguistic, and educational ties between Cambodia and the Francophone world.

The event brought together high-level officials, educators, diplomats, and representatives from both Cambodian and international Francophone organizations. Among those present were His Excellency Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sports of Cambodia, who presided over the ceremony, alongside diplomatic representatives from France and other Francophone partners.

In his speech, Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Hang Chuon Naron emphasized the importance of expanding access to high-quality French learning for the Cambodian population. He noted that French language education plays a vital role in broadening opportunities for students and fostering international mobility, cultural dialogue, and academic excellence. The creation of the National Center for French Learning reflects Cambodia’s commitment to strengthen this ecosystem of language education nationwide.

This center is envisioned as a national hub for French language teaching, training, and pedagogical innovation — a place where learners of all ages and backgrounds can access structured programs delivered by qualified teachers. It will also serve as a resource and development center for teacher training, curriculum design, and innovative instructional methods aligned with international standards.

The inauguration comes at a moment of dynamic growth for French in Cambodia. Over 400,000 Cambodian students currently study French in schools across the country, making French one of the fastest-growing foreign languages in the education system. Officials also highlighted the role of bilingual Khmer-French classes and the increasing demand for French language skills in higher education and professional sectors.

In addition to the center’s launch, the government also announced new French scholarships for Cambodian students, particularly in fields such as law and economics, which will allow them to pursue studies in France. These scholarships aim to strengthen academic exchange and build long-term institutional links between Cambodian and French universities.

The creation and inauguration of this National Center for French Learning are seen as part of Cambodia’s broader preparations for the 20th Summit of La Francophonie, which the country will host in Siem Reap in November 2026. This high-profile international event is expected to showcase Cambodia’s leadership role within the global Francophone community and further accelerate cultural and educational cooperation with Francophone nations.

Overall, the National Center is positioned as a living bridge to excellence in Francophone education — a place not only for language acquisition but for cultural exchange, professional development, and sustained partnership within the Francophone world.ienne bilingue et donc compétitive sur la scène internationale.
