Interview
How long have you been living in Cambodia?I’ve been here for nearly seven years now. My parents decided to move to Cambodia, and, like any good daughter, I followed their lead. At the time, I was searching for a country that would allow me to focus on creating art full-time. Cambodia exceeded my expectations—I found the freedom to dedicate myself to my work.
What initially drew you to painting?Art has always run through my veins; I started painting at a very young age. Being introverted, I sometimes find words limiting, so painting became my favored language. It gives form and color to my thoughts and emotions in a way that speech cannot.
Where does your inspiration originate? My influences are multifaceted. I find inspiration in the living world, the faces I encounter, and the lively atmospheres I immerse myself in. My artistic heroes include Matisse and Van Gogh, but I am also deeply influenced by contemporary creators and even Cambodia’s urban landscape—especially Phnom Penh’s bustling markets.
