Taekwon-Do: Cambodia Wins Seven Medals and the Right to Host the 2028 Asian Championships

Seven medals in Mongolia and the right to host the 2028 edition: Cambodia confirms its rising profile on the Asian ITF Taekwon-Do scene.

A double win — on the mat and in the vote. Cambodian athletes have claimed seven medals at the 2026 Asian ITF Taekwon-Do Championships, currently underway in Mongolia, while also securing the right to host the next continental edition in 2028. The result confirms the Kingdom's growing standing in the discipline, at a time when the country is looking to expand its portfolio of international sporting showcases.

According to H.E. Keo Remy, Senior Minister and President of the Cambodia ITF Taekwon-Do Federation, the medal tally stood at seven as of 12:15 p.m. on 5 August, spread across the patterns (Tul) and power breaking events — two signature disciplines of ITF-style Taekwon-Do, which reward technical precision as much as physical power.

Two Titles and Five More Podium Finishes

The breakdown of Cambodia's medal haul reflects the depth of the squad sent to Mongolia. Siv Sereyboth and Serey Ratanavong each claimed a gold medal. Dim Chhaykunthavoreak took silver, as did Lim Kheng in the women's power breaking event and Net Hakly in the men's power breaking event. Serey Ratanapong and Leng Chhorkitya rounded out the tally with two bronze medals.

Seven medals, two continental titles and five podium finishes: the performance places Cambodia among the standout nations of this edition, in a regional landscape where the discipline continues to draw growing interest from Asian federations.

Phnom Penh Beats Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan

Beyond the results on the mat, Cambodia also secured a significant diplomatic win: the country will host the 12th Asian ITF Taekwon-Do Championships in 2028, after being unanimously selected by the General Assembly of the Asian Taekwon-Do Federation (ATF), beating out competing bids from Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The decision was made on 4 August in Ulaanbaatar, on the sidelines of the ongoing 11th Asian Championships, which run from 3 to 9 August. The news reinforces Cambodia's broader strategy of hosting international sporting events, following on from its organisation of the 2023 Southeast Asian Games.

A 47-Member Delegation in Mongolia

Cambodia is represented in Ulaanbaatar by a 47-member delegation, including 32 athletes from the junior and senior national teams. With the competition running through 9 August, the delegation still has several days to add to its medal count before the tournament concludes.
