Show & Reamker: ‘The Abduction of Sita’ by the Princess Boppha Devi Danse School

On 7 and 8 November 2024, the Institut Français will be presenting a performance by dancers from the Princess Boppha Devi Dance School, in collaboration with the Tep Bottom Vong orchestra of the venerable Chunn Ban, conducted by HRH Prince Tesso Sisowath and dance teacher Duk Sith.

The kidnapping of Sita

Prince Preah Ream, accompanied by his wife Neang Seda and his half-brother Preah Leak, leave their kingdom of Ayodhya. In the forest of Dandaka, the King of the Giants Krong Reap spots them and immediately falls in love with the beautiful Neang Seda. He devises several subterfuges to isolate the princess and kidnap her from his palace in Langka.

Preah Ream, with the help of his general, the valiant Hanuman, raised an army to build a bridge to the island of Langka. They entered the giant's palace and began the battle that would see his victory over Krong Reap.

Freed from the Giant's grip, Neang Seda begs her husband's forgiveness, and must undergo the trial by fire that will attest to her perfect fidelity and unfailing love for her husband. Back in the capital of Ayodhya, the couple are welcomed as royalty.
