Last Saturday, Phnom Penh pulsed to the rhythm of Europe. For one day, EuroFeast transformed the capital into a true crossroads of flavors, cultures, and encounters. Under the red umbrellas, in the soft late-afternoon light, the event offered much more than a gastronomic experience: a moment of sharing, conviviality, and collective joy. Through the lens of Cambodge Mag's young intern photographer, Sofiia Chaban, this atmosphere takes on a particularly vivid dimension.

What strikes you immediately in her series is her ability to capture raw emotion. Far from frozen or overly composed images, Sofiia Chaban favors the sincere moment, the one that arises unexpectedly. Her shots are inhabited by smiles: bursts of frank laughter, complicit glances, relaxed expressions that fully convey the spirit of EuroFeast.

One image features two participants sporting the colors of EuroFeast. Their direct gaze toward the lens is natural, almost spontaneous. Here, the photographer adopts a discreet approach, letting her subjects fully exist in front of the camera. The result is a sincere image, just like the event itself: accessible, open, human.

But it's perhaps in the quieter moments that her gaze reveals itself most subtly. A young woman, seated in the midst of the crowd, lifts her eyes with a gentle, thoughtful expression. Around her, the bustle continues, but Sofiia Chaban manages to create a visual pause. This scene reminds us that joy doesn't manifest only in movement or noise, but also in more inward, almost contemplative moments.
As highlighted in Cambodge Mag's full article, EuroFeast celebrated Europe's culinary richness while fostering cultural exchanges at the heart of Phnom Penh. Yet, beyond the stalls, tastings, and animations, it's the human interactions that linger in the mind. And that's precisely what the young photographer brings to light.
Her work already demonstrates a confident sensitivity to reportage photography. An attention to authenticity, an ability to blend into the event, and above all, a gaze that prioritizes the human element. She doesn't construct a story: she reveals it.
At the dawn of a new chapter, it's likely that Sofiia Chaban will continue her journey by joining a journalism school in Madrid next year — a natural evolution for such a sharp and promising gaze.
In immortalizing EuroFeast, Sofiia Chaban does more than document an event. She captures its soul.
