Kris Marko Unveils Skins & Memories at The Plantation Urban Resort & Spa

The French-Serbian artist, based in Phnom Penh, presents a new series of layered works — acrylic, collage, mosaic, metallic elements — from 3 to 31 October, at Plantation Urban Resort & Spa.

Skin as material

Skins & Memories brings together works built up in successive layers — acrylic, collage, mosaic, metallic elements, sculptural materials — in which the canvas itself becomes a physical record of time. The exhibition looks at what disappears, what we hold on to, what we transform without noticing, and what comes back unbidden. For Kris Marko, memory isn't an archive of the past, but a living material, continually rewritten by time.

A practice built in layers

Born between France and Serbia, Kris Marko lives and works in Phnom Penh. His painting doesn't tell time as a straight line — it accumulates its traces, fragments, erasures and transformations instead. His practice moves between painting, collage and sculptural intervention, with a growing interest in series that treat the canvas as a living surface: written, erased, rewritten.

A dialogue with the setting

The exhibition runs through the gallery spaces around Plantation's fish pond, setting the layered canvases against the resort's architecture, gardens and quiet atmosphere. Alexander Scheible, General Manager of Plantation Urban Resort & Spa, ranks it among the artist's strongest showings: "We have always supported art, regardless of its style or medium, and we are very happy to have Kris and his unique artwork exhibited here. While Kris has already had numerous exhibitions on the international art scene, this exhibition promises to be one of his most impressive yet. His work, with its impulsive and spontaneous references to Cambodia, is a perfect fit for the character of Plantation."
