Gastronomy: “Hormok” ranks first among national cuisines in a competition in Thailand

The traditional Khmer dish “Hormok”, commonly known as Amok, was ranked first for national representative cuisine at the ‘Thailand World Junior Chef Battle 2024’, an international food competition in Thailand.

Speaking to reporters on 10 September, Mr Chhun Bunchhou, representing the young Cambodian chefs taking part in the event for the first time, said that his team was proud to bring “Hormok” to the Thailand World Junior Chef Battle 2024.

He added that the competition was a great opportunity for Cambodian chefs to showcase Khmer cuisine to the world and hone their skills for future international food events.

Organised from 28 to 31 August by the Thai Chefs Association in collaboration with the World Association of Chefs Societies (WAC), the Thailand World Junior Chef Battle 2024 attracted 16 teams of chefs from 13 countries, including Cambodia, Australia, China, Greece, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Maldives, Mongolia, Singapore, South Korea, the United States, Vietnam and the host country, Thailand.
