Demi Portion et DJ Rolxx : Le rap Français indépendant revient faire vibrer Phnom Penh

An awaited return after historic success

French rap is about to make its big comeback in Phnom Penh. On Saturday, November 29, the B-BOX hall of Factory Phnom Penh will host a highly anticipated date: a concert by Demi Portion, a respected figure in the independent hip-hop scene.

It is not the first time the duo has graced the Cambodian stage. Their visit follows the continuity of a significant success. Indeed, Demi Portion and DJ Rolxx already performed last year (in November) during a historic concert shared with Oxmo Puccino, hailed by the public as one of the highlights of the capital's musical life. A great pleasure that the two artists are eager to renew this year in solo.

After performing on legendary stages in France (Olympia, La Cigale, Le Bataclan) and after a European tour crowning the album Poids Plume, Demi Portion begins his second world tour.

A unique opportunity for the Cambodian public and the Francophone community to see on stage a rapper who has been building a solid bridge for years between fine writing, stage energy, and closeness with his audience.

Demi Portion: The craftsman of conscious rap

His real name is Rachid Daif. Demi Portion comes from Sète (Hérault) and started rapping very young, at the age of 12, in his youth on the Île de Thau. After honing his skills within the group "Les Grandes Gueules," he launched his solo career in 2008.

His style is quickly defined as "conscious" rap, a precise writing deeply rooted in hip-hop culture while remaining attached to his Moroccan origins. The artist is often described as an "authentic rapper" who, for over twenty years, has managed to unite his audience while making a mark on his contemporaries.

Loyalty and independence

Beyond his landmark albums (such as La Bonne École in 2020), what sets Demi Portion apart is his commitment to independent hip-hop culture. He notably founded the Demi Festival in Sète in 2016, an event that brings together emerging and established artists in a friendly seaside setting. This gesture reflects his consistency and desire to remain faithful to his roots and the foundational values of his music.

His recognizable universe skillfully blends cultural references (the manga Dragon Ball often appears in his visuals and samples) and local anchoring. His current international tour, which stops in Phnom Penh, strengthens the "event" effect for Cambodia, offering a rare chance to witness a performance by an artist of this caliber.

DJ Rolxx: The master of turntables and producer

Inseparable from Demi Portion’s live success, DJ Rolxx (real name Joris Voisin) is not just a companion but an essential stage partner.

DJ, beatmaker, and self-taught producer, Rolxx started with graffiti before turning to turntables. His experience, forged notably in international clubs, gives a unique depth to the show. He ensures transitions, atmosphere, and part of the production, strongly contributing to making the concert a complete and powerful spectacle.

His beatmaker profile adds weight to the event: it is not just a rapper accompanied by a DJ, but two artists who master the art of live performance and production. Rolxx also released his own solo instrumental/trip-hop project, M.U.S.I.C (Musique universelle sous influence cosmique), demonstrating his musical mastery beyond his role as a stage DJ.

With this new high-level cultural event, Phnom Penh confirms its openness to international urban scenes and reaffirms the growing appetite of its audience for authentic Francophone artists.
