On 29 April 2025, Sok Siphana, Minister of State of the Royal Government of Cambodia, unveiled his book entitled Destiny and Hope: Flashbacks from the Killing Fields of Cambodia at the Shangri-La Hotel in Phnom Penh.

The book was written during a difficult period in his life, when he was battling cancer and undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Encouraged by his wife, he began writing his memoirs five years after his diagnosis, despite his hesitations. He described the process as physically and emotionally draining, especially after losing his son to cancer, but he felt compelled to finish the book as the final chapter of his life.
These memoirs are not only a personal account, but also a historical testimony to Cambodia's darkest period. Sok Siphana emphasises the theme of hope and resilience, arguing that hope involves accepting the inevitability of the end, including death, a realisation he came to during the Khmer Rouge era. His story is a source of inspiration for younger generations, who can remain resilient in the face of pressure without losing their identity.

All proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to the Sok Khieu Samithi arts association, reflecting Sok Siphana's commitment to preserving Cambodian culture and supporting future generations.
The launch ceremony was attended by government officials and civil society leaders, highlighting the importance of Sok Siphana's work as a public figure and witness to Cambodia's painful but hopeful history. He expressed his deep gratitude to his wife, friends and supporters, paying tribute to his wife, whom he considers the cornerstone of the creation of his memoirs.
Sok Siphana's memoirs share profound lessons of survival and resilience, drawn from his difficult personal experiences under the Khmer Rouge regime and his battle with cancer, embodying hope and perseverance for Cambodia's future.
