As the country navigates a challenging period, the CIFF opening ceremony delivered a breath of fresh air—a concentrated burst of smiles, glamour, and elegance on the red carpet at the renowned Chaktomuk Theater.

They were all there: national stars, fans arriving in droves, journalists, officials in gala attire, and devoted volunteers, all gathered to celebrate the fifteenth edition of a festival promising rich emotions, exceptional screenings, unforgettable encounters, and scenic surprises.

From 5:30 PM, the red carpet unfurled in front of the imposing silhouette of the Chaktomuk Conference Hall, an iconic building standing sentinel at the confluence of the Mekong's four arms. This is where the 2026 edition of the Cambodia International Film Festival (CIFF) kicked off.
This 2026 vintage promises to be memorable, themed around transmission and elevation. The opening ceremony, with its elegantly diplomatic flair, will be presided over by Her Excellency Dr. Phoeurng Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts. A guiding figure in the national artistic scene, her presence immediately lends the evening an official tone, as well as a sincere commitment to the creative vitality of the kingdom.

With luminous solemnity, Her Excellency Neak Oknha Mao Chnan, president of the Khmer Artists' Association and a living memory of the national scene, will be elevated to the dignity of Honorary President of the festival. A well-deserved consecration for the woman who, for decades, has worked to preserve the artistic soul of Cambodia.
But CIFF is also an aesthetic promise.
The evening will then pay its respects. In the hall, images from yesterday will meet sounds of today. A rare-intensity live musical performance will accompany the screening of a 1961 documentary on Angkor. This time-travel journey, where the orchestra responds to the silver images of eternal temples, offers an immersive experience—a poetic dialogue between sacred ruins and modernity.

Youth will then take center stage. The spotlight will shine on a artistic performance by the talented Sinn Setsochhata. Bearing a name that echoes like a legacy (daughter of the legendary Sinn Sisamouth, ed.), she embodies continuity and rebirth. Her presence, blending softness and power, will bridge generations.

Finally, the ceremony will conclude in an explosion of colors and ancestral craftsmanship. A stunning parade of costumes from indigenous communities will remind us that Cambodia, beyond its modern cities, is a mosaic of peoples and traditions.
As night fully falls over Phnom Penh and the first notes rise from the river, CIFF 2026 sets its markers: a festival that celebrates not just cinema, but the splendor of a culture that faces the future with pride in its past. See you over four days of emotions and discoveries. The show has just begun.
