To mark the visit to Cambodia of Claudie Haigneré, the first French and European woman to walk in space, the Institut de Technologie du Cambodge is delighted to be organising a major conference entitled ‘Women of Power and Women of Action: Reflections on the Role of Women in a Changing World’. The event will be held on Tuesday 30 September at 8.30 am, in French and Khmer.

Born in 1957 in Le Creusot, she first made a name for herself as a rheumatologist before becoming a spacewoman, carrying out two emblematic missions, notably on board the Russian Mir space station and then the ISS (International Space Station).
Today, she is recognised for her scientific expertise, her commitment to innovation and her political role in French and European institutions, having served as Minister for Research and New Technologies.
Her career is a universal source of inspiration for all women and the younger generations. She will share her vision of the growing role of women in traditionally male domains such as science, politics and space exploration.
Claudie Haigneré is also an ardent defender of societal commitment, particularly in terms of ecological awareness and the protection of the commons. She will be stressing the crucial importance of education and the preservation of biodiversity on Earth, but also of outer space - a true common heritage of humanity requiring scientific cooperation and enhanced intercultural dialogue.
This conference will provide a unique opportunity to discuss the ways in which women can become major agents of change, combining leadership, commitment and concrete action. Drawing on concrete examples and international initiatives, Claudie Haigneré will demonstrate that women's involvement is essential if we are to meet the environmental, social and technological challenges of the 21st century.
This event is part of a global movement to promote the contribution of women to scientific research and political decision-making. Today, despite progress, inequalities persist: only one third of scientific researchers are women, and their access to positions of responsibility remains limited. However, the presence and audacity of pioneers like Claudie Haigneré reinforce the conviction that the barriers can be overcome.
The Institut de Technologie du Cambodge is inviting all interested parties to this enriching meeting, which promises to inspire and inspire. Registration is compulsory via the QR code below to ensure an optimal welcome. A great opportunity to discuss, learn and dream together of a future where women of all generations continue to pave the way for progress.
