Commitment

‘We are happy to learn that many countries outside the region are also offering emergency aid to Myanmar,’ he said.

The head of Cambodia's diplomacy also took the opportunity to express his country's sincere gratitude to the governments of Myanmar and Thailand for their assistance to Cambodian nationals affected by the disaster. ‘Our respective embassies are working closely with the relief teams on the ground,’ he said.

With many people still trapped under collapsed buildings and in need of medical assistance, rescue teams are continuing their efforts to save as many lives as possible. Every minute counts.

"Cambodia remains firmly committed alongside Myanmar, Thailand, and the entire ASEAN family, under Malaysia's presidency, during this difficult period," reaffirmed H.E. Prak Sokhonn.

Furthermore, Cambodia wishes to join Malaysia and other friendly countries in calling on all concerned parties in Myanmar to cease hostilities, "to focus on peace," as stated by Foreign Minister Erywan, in order to allow humanitarian aid to reach those in need.

Destrucción

The recent earthquake in Myanmar has caused significant loss of life and massive destruction.  According to the latest reports, the death toll has exceeded 1,700 people, with around 3,400 injured and nearly 300 others missing.  The earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.7, occurred near Mandalay, causing significant damage to infrastructure and buildings.

In neighboring Thailand, the earthquake has caused at least 17 deaths, mainly due to the collapse of a building under construction in Bangkok.  Rescue efforts continue in both countries, with the arrival of international aid and rescue teams to assist in the search for survivors and provide humanitarian aid.

The situation remains difficult due to damaged roads, unreliable communications, and the ongoing civil conflict in Myanmar, which complicates relief operations.  According to forecasts, the final toll could exceed 10,000 dead.
