The 20th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Science, Technology, and Innovation (AMMSTI-20) kicked off in Siem Reap this morning under the Chairmanship of Cambodia’s Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet.
In his opening address, the PM welcomed all foreign delegates and distinguished guests to the AMMSTI-20, emphasising the importance of the meeting's theme, "AI Application." This year’s meeting, entitled “Navigating the Future,” will focus on strategic discussions pertaining to the integration of AI technologies in public and private sectors across the region. Samdech Thipadei said that this was an important topic for humanity.
“Science and technology are important pillars to support the progress of humanity,” he said. "It helps to support progress and improve the lives of people, but all should pay attention to the moral, privacy and so on," Samdech Thipadei underlined.
The Cambodian Prime Minister stated that this event will be a pivotal moment for ASEAN to showcase the outcomes of the discussions. These will include joint statements by ASEAN Ministers on STI about the critical need for AI application to drive regional growth, as well as emphasising the importance of ethical issues, regulations, skills and education, and public engagement.
H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation of Cambodia, stated that science and technology, especially AI, present both challenges and opportunities for society.
The minister emphasised the importance of human beings having a comprehensive understanding of how to manage technology in a way that promotes inclusivity and sustainable growth.
