Phnom Penh & Solidarity : Two Exhibitions for a Wave of Solidarity

Nearly five months ago, the multidisciplinary artist Khun Vannak (photographer, performer, and painter) was diagnosed with a rare form of skin cancer, which had also developed internally, reaching stage 4 of 4. Following all necessary examinations and inter-departmental meetings, chemotherapy treatment was recommended by the oncology service at Calmette Hospital.

However, due to "resistance" to the side effects of such an intense treatment, it had to be postponed for three months.

The current plan is to seek confirmation on the relevance of the proposed treatment from another specialized center, a standard practice in many countries, before proceeding. Furthermore, as the effectiveness of the treatment is not entirely guaranteed, preparing a 'Plan B' is necessary. It is also important to note that this cancer is treatable but not curable, meaning follow-up care (every three months, ad vitam) will be required, even if the chemotherapy proves successful.

To support him in the short and long-term battle he is fighting and preparing to face, a powerful wave of solidarity has emerged within the artistic communities, spearheaded by Meta House and quickly followed by the Romcheik 5 Gallery.

As a result, in under two months, two exceptional group exhibitions have been organized, featuring no fewer than 34 artists from diverse backgrounds, all of whom have donated one or more of their creations. Paintings, photographs, and sculptures on various media will be put up for auction. In total, a staggering 69 works of art will be offered!
