Phnom Penh & Exhibition: DinArt — When the Khmer Soul Expresses Itself in Color

The Plantation Urban Resort & Spa is pleased to announce the exhibition of DinArt, a contemporary Cambodian artist, presented from May 31 to July 31, 2026 in its Phnom Penh setting. A meeting between hospitality excellence and the uniqueness of a body of work that reinvents a nation’s heritage.

DinArt — Quand l'âme khmère s'exprime en couleurs

Behind the name DinArt is Teang Borin, born in Kampot, whose journey is as distinctive as his work. A graduate in architecture from Norton University in Phnom Penh, he worked for six years in an architectural firm before realizing that his true calling lay elsewhere — in the immediacy of the pictorial gesture, in contrast to the years required for a constructed project. In 2014, he left the profession to fully devote himself to his art. The following year, he founded the DinArt Gallery, his studio and exhibition space, located above the Feel Good Café in central Phnom Penh.

Self-taught, DinArt has developed a visual language deeply rooted in Cambodia’s cultural and spiritual heritage. His two main directions: on one hand, an abstract reinterpretation of Khmer tradition — Apsara dances, Buddhist symbolism, royal ballet — expressed through intensely vibrant colors and ever-moving forms; on the other hand, an abstract painting style inspired by Western influences that explores the complexity of contemporary societies, nature, and the human condition. Nicknamed the “artist of the Apsaras,” he has established his faceless-figure canvases — a distinctive signature — as a meditation on interiority and transmission.

Institutional recognition followed quickly. In 2020, one of his works was acquired by Professor Roux François Xavier to be offered to His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni. More recently, a painting depicting Angkor Wat temple and a classical Khmer dancer was selected by Senate President Hun Sen to be presented to the ASEAN Secretary-General, Kao Kim Hourn, during an official visit to the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta. The artwork is now prominently displayed in the ASEAN Gallery. Internationally, DinArt has also been recognized as an “artist to watch” by Prestige Hong Kong and has exhibited in prestigious venues — including the Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor in Siem Reap, where a residency exhibition explored the colors of Khmer royalty and the tradition of the Royal Guards.

“Through my work, I try to capture the energy and spirit of Cambodia — not as a fixed image, but as something living and constantly evolving. It is a way of connecting tradition with my own experience today.” — DinArt (Teang Borin)

The exhibition at the Plantation presents a selection of works forming an abstract impression of Cambodia’s spiritual and cultural landscape. Through gesture and composition, DinArt invites each visitor to reinterpret familiar motifs in a more personal and intimate way — an invitation to a silent dialogue between heritage and the contemporary gaze.

“We see the Plantation as much more than a place to stay. Hosting artists like DinArt allows us to create a space where our guests can connect directly and personally with Cambodian culture. After welcoming international artists, we are delighted to highlight one of the country’s most remarkable contemporary talents.” — Alexander Scheible, General Manager, Plantation Urban Resort & Spa

The exhibition is open to hotel guests as well as external visitors, from May 31 to July 31, 2026.

Dates: May 31 — July 31, 2026
