Prime Minister Hun Manet today inaugurated the Techo International Airport (KTI), Cambodia’s new international gateway, during a historic ceremony attended by ambassadors and dignitaries from France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Indonesia, and Singapore, as well as representatives from major European, North American, and ASEAN chambers of commerce.

Among the guests of honor were British MP Matt Western, the UK Special Envoy for Trade, and former Hong Kong Chief Executive CY Leung. Representatives of international airlines, leading global hotel brands such as Raffles, Marriott, and Accor Hotels, along with delegations from the American and European Chambers of Commerce and other international business networks, were also present.

The inauguration marks a turning point in Cambodia’s economic and tourism development, underscoring the nation’s growing connectivity and emergence as a dynamic destination in Southeast Asia.

A Major Franco-Cambodian Partnership

Operated by the French group VINCI Airports, a global leader in airport management, the new facility benefits from top-tier international expertise, including ATKINS, Lagardère Travel Retail, Heerim Architects, and Changi Airport Group of Singapore as consultants. Cambodian, French, and Chinese construction firms also contributed. This cutting-edge infrastructure is set to enhance Cambodia’s global accessibility and appeal to travelers and investors alike.

“The Techo International Airport symbolizes Cambodia’s progress and its growing role as a crossroads for travel, trade, and tourism in Southeast Asia,” said Pung Kheav Se, the French-speaking Cambodian chairman of Cambodia Airport Investment Co. (CAIC) and the Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation (OCIC).

Developed by CAIC, a subsidiary of OCIC, in partnership with the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA), this new airport exemplifies Cambodia’s success in international cooperation.

Passengers will enjoy both global brands such as Starbucks, Paul, and Burger King, and beloved local names like Brown Coffee, Agong, Siso Bakery, and Malis—showcasing a blend of French savoir-faire, Khmer hospitality, and international quality.

A Showcase of Cambodian Hospitality

“The Techo International Airport will offer many visitors their first warm encounter with Cambodia, reflecting our hospitality and culture,” said Minea Kim, Director General of the Cambodia Tourism Board. “Cambodia is committed to delivering experiences that inspire and delight travelers.”

The airport currently serves 31 airlines across 44 routes, with 130 aircraft movements daily and approximately 15,000 passengers per day. For maintenance services, SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC), a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines Group, has partnered with CAIC to provide maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) solutions at this new hub.

Enhanced International Connectivity

Since opening, KTI has welcomed new international carriers, significantly expanding Cambodia’s global network. Etihad Airways launched direct flights between Abu Dhabi and Phnom Penh on October 4, 2025, providing easy access to the Middle East and Europe. Turkish Airlines will inaugurate its Istanbul route on December 10, 2025, adding another European connection. Meanwhile, Air Cambodia, the national airline, will begin regular service to Tokyo on October 26, 2025, strengthening links with Asia.

Architecture and Sustainable Development

Designed by the renowned British firm Foster + Partners and operated by VINCI Airports, KTI blends world-class facilities with authentic Cambodian heritage. The terminal features Khmer-inspired design elements, including a 9-meter Abhayamudra Buddha statue and over 200 hand-carved stone sculptures by local artisans. Built with modern sustainability and energy-efficiency standards, KTI embodies Cambodia’s commitment to responsible development.

An Economic Engine for Cambodia

The new airport is expected to create around 10,000 jobs—three times more than Cambodia’s previous airport. It will reinforce Phnom Penh’s profile as a full-fledged tourist destination, with the capital’s riverside location offering world-class hotels, diverse cuisine, cultural landmarks such as the Royal Palace and National Museum, and contemporary leisure districts.

KTI also serves as a gateway to Phnom Da and Angkor Borei (UNESCO World Heritage candidates), Cambodia’s coastal regions, and its natural retreats, including wellness, eco-tourism, and luxury destinations such as Rosewood Phnom Penh, Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh, Raffles Hotel Le Royal, and Shinta Mani Wild – Bensley Collection.
