Culminating in an inauguration scheduled for November 2026, this transformation promises to be an irresistible attraction for travelers wishing to extend their stay and thus inject new vitality into the local economy.

An odyssey born from the ashes of genocide

Founded in 1992 by French diplomats and humanitarian workers, Artisans Angkor emerged from the ruins of the Khmer Rouge regime, where Cambodia's ancestral know-how—silk weaving, lacquerwork, stone sculpture—had nearly vanished with generations of massacred artisans.

Initially a modest training center for 20 apprentices from impoverished rural families, the organization grew into a solidarity empire: today, it employs several hundred artisans, the majority women, and exports its creations to several countries.

A pioneer in responsible tourism, the company has restored millennia-old techniques while fighting poverty, turning Siem Reap into a living showcase of Khmer art. The Living Art Village is just the latest chapter in a saga of resilience, where the Angkorian heritage is reborn through the patient hands of a courageous people.

Ambition

The first stone will be laid on February 23, 2026, during a traditional Buddhist blessing ceremony, in the presence of the governor of Siem Reap. From this ritual birth will emerge the "Living Art Village – Village d’Art Vivant," the most anticipated cultural tourism hub in the city center, spanning one hectare of strategic land.

Here, Cambodia's millennial heritage will dialogue with 21st-century immersive experiences, responding to the growing appetite of travelers—local and international alike—for deep cultural dives that extend from mystical dawns to starry nights, far beyond the temples.

A Glimpse of the Living Art Village

The heart of this transformation is the new Living Art Pavilion, a vast 3,000-square-meter complex that will house several innovative attractions:

Immersive Angkor (the first in Southeast Asia)

In partnership with the Confluences-aided project, "Immersive Angkor," this cutting-edge digital experience will transport visitors to the Angkorian era using state-of-the-art projection and sound technologies.

The Immersive Angkor Museum will offer a journey through time, deepening visitors' understanding of Cambodia's cultural heritage while ensuring its preservation. Photo provided.

It will be the first attraction of its kind in the region.

Artisans Angkor's flagship new boutique

A grand sales space showcasing the finest Cambodian lacquerware, silk, stone sculpture, wood sculpture, and eagerly awaited new collections.

The Creative Café concept

An exhibition space blending craftsmanship and the vibrant café culture of Siem Reap.

A Specialized Bookshop

Focused on Khmer art, history, and architecture.

Living Museum

Beyond the Pavilion, the master plan integrates the organization's existing assets into a fluid cultural campus: The Living Museum will serve as a dynamic craft workshop where visitors can watch live demonstrations of silk weaving, lacquerwork, repoussé metalwork, and stone and wood sculptures.

Living Art Canvas

An open-air sculpture garden where Artisans Angkor master artisans will carve life-sized works, offering visitors a rare glimpse into the creation of Cambodian art.

A night reinvented in Siem Reap

A bold redefinition of the nighttime economy. The Village will integrate an innovative dining and drinks concept rooted in craftsmanship to captivate visitors after dusk.

No more daytime tourism challenges: this sophisticated bubble of "creative craftsmanship" will draw crowds day and night, infusing Siem Reap with fresh, cosmopolitan energy.

"Everyone is buzzing with excitement about what will bring new thrill to local and international tourism," confides Kay Lot, General Director of Artisans Angkor.

"With this investment, we are shaping the future. The Living Art Village will give travelers a reason to linger, creating a sustainable tourism pulse for the benefit of the provincial economy."

Expected economic and social impact

This jewel promises a wave of impact: several hundred direct jobs created for local artisans, a 20% increase in tourist nights in Siem Reap thanks to extended 2-3 day stays, and projected annual revenue of around ten million dollars from 2027, with 70% redistributed as fair wages and training.

Beyond the numbers, it's a social renaissance—empowering rural women, preserving 20 ancestral trades on the brink of extinction, and boosting the provincial economy through multiplier effects (dining, transport, accommodations).

A post-pandemic symbol, the Village aims to weave resilient tourism, where every lacquer piece sold irrigates Khmer villages, proving that culture and prosperity can rhyme sustainably.

Pose de la première pierre du bâtiment principal

A symbol of confidence in Siem Reap's tourist renaissance, this fusion of heritage, immersive technology, and art of living positions itself as a standalone destination. The laying of the first stone will take place on February 23, 2026, at 7:30 a.m. sharp; the final inauguration in November will reveal this jewel to the world.
