Kep has once again confirmed its appeal. During the Pchum Ben holidays, the small coastal province welcomed a steady influx of local visitors looking to relax by the sea.

From the very first days of the holiday, hotels and guest houses showed remarkable occupancy rates. Cambodian families, as well as groups of friends in search of soothing landscapes, favoured this refuge just a few hours from Phnom Penh.

At the iconic crab market, crowds flocked to sample grilled fish and shellfish fresh from the traps. The beaches, bathed in a slightly fickle sun, attracted walkers and swimmers alike, while the Kep National Park offered its verdant paths to nature lovers.

This influx of visitors had a direct impact on the local economy.

Small fruit sellers, motorbike drivers and craftsmen all benefited from the renewed activity. The bustling traffic on the outskirts of the town was a sign of renewed dynamism, a sign that Kep is managing to revive its tourism heritage while attracting a new generation of Cambodian travellers.

Last but not least, many visitors went to the nearby pagodas to take part in the traditional Pchum Ben ceremonies, a blend of piety and family escapade.

This mix of spirituality and holidaying gave Kep a special aura during these days of celebration, confirming its status as a must-see destination.
