Emma for Cambodia: Music as a Bridge to Hope in Stung Meanchey

Cambodia has this special gift of seizing your heart around a street corner, a smile, or a child's gaze. For Marianne Medley, an accomplished musician and strong-willed woman, it was a revelation during two pivotal trips.

Faced with the raw reality of the disadvantaged neighborhoods in the south of the capital, where access to culture is often an unattainable luxury, an idea took root: what if music became a vector for hope, dignity, and emancipation?
That's how EMMA FOR CAMBODIA was born, an association I'm immensely proud to sponsor alongside my partner, the artist Vannak Khun.

Marianne Medley: A Big-Hearted Conductor
Behind this project is first and foremost Marianne's determination. In 2019, she already proved her ability to bring people together by creating EMAA in Asfeld, turning this town in the Ardennes into a hub for musical sharing.
But her empathy knows no borders.
By convincing her loved ones, friends, and musicians from Nantes to Reims to join her, she transposed her solidarity model to the banks of the Mekong. The name "EMMA FOR CAMBODIA" is also a vibrant nod to her French school, creating an unbreakable link between the two structures.

The Contrast of Stung Meanchey: Between Dust and Major Chords
To understand the urgency of the project, you need to dive into the Stung Meanchey area. In this neighborhood marked by extreme precariousness, families' daily lives are a constant struggle. Amid dusty alleys and makeshift homes, children are often deprived of carefree moments. Access to an instrument or artistic awakening are almost abstract concepts there.
This is precisely where EMMA FOR CAMBODIA has chosen to install its pianos and guitars. Bringing a note of music to Stung Meanchey means offering a breath of fresh air, a window onto another world, and proving to these kids that their creativity has universal value.

Local Leadership and a Franco-Khmer Team
The school officially opened its doors on February 2, 2026, with a first group of 17 young students. But the project's strength also lies in its local roots: the school's direction is handled by Sok Savry, Vannak's brother.
His daily involvement and deep knowledge of the terrain ensure an adapted pedagogy and strong trust with the neighborhood families. Under his leadership, the Franco-Khmer team ensures every child receives quality instruction.
Thanks to an initial fundraiser of 2,000 euros, the purchase of instruments was possible: 10 guitars, 2 pianos, and a complete rhythm section. But also salaries for Sok Savry and the music teacher, as well as a premises just steps from the students' families' homes.

An Artistic Bridge Between Two Worlds
With Vannak, we're particularly touched by the project's fraternal dimension. Beyond the lessons, a video clip is in preparation to mirror the landscapes of the Ardennes and those of Cambodia, creating a true artistic dialogue between the teachers and students of both countries. To follow this evolution more closely, know that an official website will be online very soon.
Support the Project: Every Note Counts
The journey is just beginning, and the needs remain immense. For this school to grow, hire more teachers, and secure its premises long-term, we need your generosity.

How to Get Involved?
The solidarity event: A major concert is being prepared for April 17 in Asfeld. The "Collectif des Musiciens du Coeur"—about ten artists from Reims, the Ardennes, and Nantes—will mobilize voluntarily.
Direct donation: Every contribution, even modest, allows buying a set of strings, funding an hour of lessons, or repairing an instrument.
Sponsorship: We're actively seeking partners and companies sensitive to education through culture.
Become a sponsor: You can also personally sponsor a student for the entire duration of their training. A direct commitment that durably changes the destiny of a budding young musician.
Music is a gift that is shared. Whether you're in Phnom Penh or France, help us make hope resonate in the skies of Stung Meanchey. Your support is the key to their artistic future.

Royal Support for Cultural Education
This project now has the honor of being officially supported by H.R.H. Princess Sisowath Sylvia, Secretary of State and advisor to His Majesty's Private Cabinet. Deeply engaged in humanitarian work and culture, particularly through the Kep Educational Center, her involvement brings precious momentum to our action for Stung Meanchey's youth.
