H.E. Ms Fatima Yasmin, Vice President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), is confident that Cambodia will be able to achieve its carbon neutrality goal by 2050 through the introduction of inclusive and climate-resilient policies and initiatives.
The ADB Vice-President expressed her conviction when she led delegates to the 6th Greater Mekong Subregion Environment Ministers Meeting (GMS EMM-6) to pay a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet at the Peace Palace friday afternoon.
H.E. Ms Fatima Yasmin stressed that ADB will continue to support and actively engage with the GMS countries, including Cambodia, to jointly address climate change and ensure environmental sustainability.
She also thanked Cambodia for the smooth organisation of the GMS EMM-6 on 13 September and commended the Kingdom for successfully hosting two previous GMS EMMs.
In response, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet welcomed the fruitful outcome of the GMS EMM-6, which will help promote cooperation within the GMS for a greener and more sustainable future.
The Prime Minister thanked ADB for its support to the GMS and Cambodia and for facilitating regional cooperation in environmental protection and sustainability efforts, stressing that environmental issues are common challenges that require joint cooperation from all stakeholders.
At the same time, Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei mentioned the Royal Government's priority policies and initiatives to protect the environment in a sustainable, resilient and inclusive manner, such as the 2050 Carbon Neutrality Policy to increase the use of renewable energy to 70 percent by 2030, promoting the campaign to plant 1 million trees per year, stopping the issuance of new licenses for coal-fired power plants, and launching policies to promote the development of Cambodia's electric vehicle sector.
