Build a Khmer Kite in Kep: Two Free Workshop Days This September
Art for Kep and the Association of Conservation and Development of Khmer Kites invite students, parents and families to spend a day making a traditional khleng ek. The workshop is free, and lunch is provided.
You hear a khleng ek before you see it. A thin bow, the ek, is strung across the top of the kite. When the wind catches it, it hums. For generations, Cambodian villages have sent these kites up after the rice harvest, when the dry-season wind comes in.
Now Kep gets its own chance to build them.
On Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September, Art for Kep opens its doors for a free, full-day kite-building workshop at the Kep West Wellness Center, inside Kep West. The same programme runs on both days. Pick one.
The workshop is organised with the Association of Conservation and Development of Khmer Kites (ACDKK), a group of makers who have spent years keeping this craft alive and taking it to competitions.
