Battambang Governor Highlights Local Cuisine as Tourism Pillar During Sankranta 2026

Local cuisine is a pillar of regional tourism, declared His Excellency Sok Lou, governor of Battambang province, during a visit to the culinary exhibition stands as part of the Sankranta 2026 festivities on Wednesday.

Speaking at the Khmer New Year event, the governor emphasized that the authentic flavors of the region represent a major draw for Cambodian and international visitors. Accompanied by department heads and provincial officials, he attended live demonstrations of traditional culinary techniques.

This exhibition, which brings together the gastronomic offerings of district administrations and provincial services, aims to preserve the Khmer culinary heritage.

"The exquisite taste and presentation of our local dishes and desserts greatly boost tourism," declared Governor Sok Lou.

He thanked the chefs and local artisans for enhancing this year's celebrations.

Battambang's Sankranta 2026 is organized by the provincial administration in partnership with the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC). In addition to the gastronomic fair, the event features traditional games and artistic performances, creating a festive atmosphere for residents and travelers from neighboring provinces.

Master chefs presented, step by step, the preparation of iconic Battambang recipes, allowing tourists to taste the freshly prepared dishes.

His Excellency Sok Lou noted that promoting local gastronomy aligns with the vision of the Royal Government, which positions tourism as the "green gold." He expressed hope that such events will continue to build Battambang's reputation as a leading cultural and culinary destination.
