Smart gates to transform arrivals at the new Techo International Airport

TheTecho International Airport, the country's new sprawling air hub located near Phnom Penh, is set to install state-of-the-art smart gates designed to significantly simplify the experience of international travellers upon arrival.

A modern gateway for a modern nation

Located in the vast province of Kandal, the ambitious Techo International Airport promises to be not only a symbol of national progress, but also a showcase for Cambodia's growing integration into global travel trends.

Scheduled for a pilot rollout starting 9 September, the smart gates will debut in perfect synchronisation with the airport's inauguration, cementing its status as one of Southeast Asia's most forward-thinking facilities.

How smart gates are redefining entry

The introduction of these automated immigration gates brings many tangible benefits to visitors and authorities alike:

  • Increased efficiency: Passengers will be able to scan their passports and verify their identity using biometric systems, significantly reducing queuing times and speeding up the entire entry process.

  • Enhanced security: integrated with international watch lists such as Interpol's and national security databases, the gates are designed to detect potential threats and automatically reinforce border security measures.

  • Contactless experience: in an era marked by health concerns, these digital systems minimise human interaction, providing a safer and more hygienic solution for travellers and staff.

Cambodia's largest aviation project

Covering an area of 2,600 hectares, Techo International Airport is set to be one of the world's largest airports once completed. The first operational phase alone will be able to handle up to 13 million passengers per year, a figure that is expected to reach 50 million by 2050.

Its scale is matched only by its ambition: spacious passenger terminals, architecture inspired by Cambodian tradition and a commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly design, seamlessly integrated into the infrastructure.

National and regional ambition

The introduction of smart gates is not only intended to modernise border control, but also demonstrates Cambodia's desire to become a regional aviation powerhouse. By being the first to adopt cutting-edge solutions to improve the passenger experience and security, the country is forging a new identity synonymous with technical excellence, hospitality and global relevance.

In essence, the deployment of smart gates at Techo International Airport is more than just a technological upgrade; it is a bold statement that Cambodia is ready to welcome the world and, with the world at its doorstep, ready to shape the future of travel in the heart of Southeast Asia.
