MICHELIN Once Again Honours Cambodia's Two Raffles Hotels

For the second year running, Raffles Hotel Le Royal in Phnom Penh and Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor in Siem Reap have been awarded a MICHELIN Key in the 2026 edition of the guide. The two Accor-owned properties are among just twelve Cambodian hotels to receive the distinction, unveiled in September.

Introduced in 2024, MICHELIN Keys recognise the hotels the guide's inspectors consider most exceptional, on the same principle as the stars awarded to restaurants. Raffles Hotel Le Royal is hailed by the guide's editors as "Phnom Penh's top hotel by far," and praised for its location, just steps from the Royal Palace. Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor is described as an "authentic French Colonial hotel," filled with 1930s Art Deco furnishings, claw-footed bathtubs and a restored antique cage elevator, while still offering, in the guide's words, "all the conveniences needed for survival in the competitive Asian luxury hotel market."

Originally opened in 1929, the hotel today features 175 rooms and suites, fully refurbished during a restoration project completed in 2019 that reinterpreted the hotel's colonial heritage in a contemporary style blending French, Khmer and Art Deco influences.

Opened three years later, in 1932, as a rest stop for archaeologists and adventurers exploring the temples of Angkor, Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor has instead chosen to preserve its 1930s French Art Deco style. "To be recognised again by the MICHELIN Guide is both an honour and a responsibility," said Joseph Colina, the hotel's General Manager, who this year unveiled a new permanent exhibition, "Grand Path of History," celebrating the golden age of travel in Southeast Asia.

The two hotels joined forces last year to launch a seven-day package called "A Tale of Two Cities," allowing guests to experience Phnom Penh and Siem Reap through the lens of both historic properties.
