Cambodia reached a major milestone in 2025 with the export of 940,321 tonnes of milled rice, up 45% year on year, according to a report released on January 5 by the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF).

These shipments generated USD 602 million in revenue—an increase of 22.6% from USD 491 million in 2024—propelling Khmer rice onto global markets.
Key Markets and Diversification
The European Union led the way with 339,417 tonnes imported (36% of the total), valued at USD 258 million, followed by China (231,125 tonnes, USD 138 million) and ASEAN countries (273,657 tonnes, USD 117 million). Other destinations—including Africa, the Middle East, the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand—absorbed 96,122 tonnes worth USD 88 million, shipped by 68 companies to 75 countries. The RCEP and the Cambodia–China Free Trade Agreement continue to boost these agricultural exports through preferential tariffs.
Star Varieties and Global Accolade
Fragrant rice accounted for 64% of volumes, followed by broken rice (18.56%), long-grain white rice (13.71%), parboiled (2%), organic (1.32%), and other varieties. Malys Angkor (Phka Rumduol variety), crowned “World’s Best Rice 2025” for the seventh time at the international conference in Phnom Penh in November, further cements the premium reputation of Khmer rice.
Rising Cross-Border Trade
At the same time, 6.85 million tonnes of paddy rice were exported across borders, generating USD 1.579 billion, a 32% increase. The combined total exceeds USD 2 billion, underscoring rice’s pivotal role in rural livelihoods and Cambodia’s macroeconomic stability.
Promising Outlook
This record performance—powered by investments in irrigation and processing—positions Cambodia toward the symbolic goal of one million tonnes annually, while strengthening its global quality brand. Experts praise the sector’s resilience in the face of climate challenges and its continued market diversification.
