In accordance with a sub-decree signed by Prime Minister Hun Manet last Thursday, the Khmer Traditional New Year celebrations will be observed for three days in 2025.
The first public holiday of next year for Cambodia will be New Year's Day on 1 January, while the last will be Cambodia Peace Day on 29 December.
Cambodia Peace Day is a national holiday dedicated to celebrating peace and mourning the loss of lives due to war. This day is intended to commemorate the conclusion of the civil war and the establishment of comprehensive peace and national unity in Cambodia.
The Khmer New Year holiday has been reduced by one day, to three consecutive days instead of four, from 14 to 16 April.
Ath Thorn, President of the Cambodian Labour Confederation, highlighted the prevalence of extended work hours in Cambodia, with employees often working up to 48 hours per week. In many other countries, the standard workweek is 40 hours, while in others it is 36 hours. Mr. Thorn also stated that the work hours for civil servants and private sector employees should be aligned, with Monday to Friday being the standard workweek.
