Cambodia & Kampot: Official inauguration of the new international tourist port

The Kampot International Tourist Port, located in the coastal province of the same name, was officially opened this morning in the presence of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet.

In his speech, the Prime Minister congratulated Kampot Province on this major achievement and expressed his gratitude to the Asian Development Bank for financing this tourist port as well as other infrastructure projects in Cambodia.

The Prime Minister emphasised that the partnership between the ADB and the Royal Government of Cambodia continues to play a key role in promoting socio-economic development and improving the standard of living of the Cambodian people.

For her part, Ms Jyotsana Varma emphasised the ADB's pride in maintaining a strong partnership with the Royal Government of Cambodia and reaffirmed the bank's commitment to continue ‘working closely with government agencies for the prosperity of the Cambodian people through various projects and programmes’.

Located in the village of Chum Kreal, Chum Kreal commune, Teuk Chhou district, on an area of 4.25 hectares, the new port is expected to become a strategic waterway, facilitating the transport of tourists to the southern islands of Cambodia and connecting the country's tourism industry with those of neighbouring nations, the wider region and the world.

Construction of the port began in 2018 and was completed in 2022. The project is part of the Greater Mekong Subregion Tourism Infrastructure for Inclusive Growth (GMS TIIG) initiative, with total financial support of US$10 million from the AfDB.

The port is operated by the local company AZ Builders Co. Cambodia now has 119 sea and river ports, including two international ports – the Phnom Penh Autonomous Port and the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port – 88 river ports and 31 coastal ports.
