The Kampot International Tourist Port, operated by local company AZ Builders Co, Ltd, will be officially opened on 3 April 2025. The information was shared by Prime Minister Hun Manet in Phnom Penh yesterday afternoon.

The port, which began construction in 2018 and will be completed in 2022, is part of a ‘Tourism Infrastructure Development Project’ with financial support of US$10 million from the Asian Development Bank.
The KITP, which began construction on 8 August 2018 and was completed on 30 June 2022, is part of a $9.27 million Tourism Infrastructure Development Project funded by the Asian Development Bank. Although construction was completed in 2022, the port had not been commissioned because an operating company with sufficient investment capital (US$5-10 million) and the experience to excavate a deeper and wider waterway was required. A more detailed study of navigation techniques, the installation of navigational aids and investment in the port's safety infrastructure was also required to ensure that KITP became a compliant tourist port.

According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the KITP will offer numerous benefits, including a new port to link Cambodia's archipelagos with countries in the region and around the world, boosting confidence among visitors and investors, creating jobs and increasing income for the local population and businesses, and supporting the tourism sector.
The ministry also points out that, although Cambodia currently has a total of 119 ports and port terminals, including two international ports - the autonomous port of Phnom Penh and that of Sihanoukville - 88 along rivers and 31 in coastal areas, these infrastructures still do not meet the real needs of the country's geographical areas.
