Cambodia & Beauty: We tried the Shangri-La Spa

We asked two young Phnom Penh residents, Cindy and Sara, to give us their impressions of the SPA at the recently opened Shangri-La Hotel. Cindy describes the experience as rather positive, with a few suggestions to make it unforgettable.

As soon as you arrive on the 51st floor of Le Peak, the spectacular view of Phnom Penh takes center stage, offering an initial sensation of escape and luxury. The SPA's elevated position immediately creates an exceptional atmosphere, conducive to relaxation.

Decor, ambience and welcome: a subtle balance

The SPA's elegantly sober décor, with its mix of neutral and woody tones, creates a modern yet warm ambience. However, the temperature can sometimes seem a little cold, especially in the waiting room. On the other hand, the staff's warm, smiling welcome more than makes up for it. Delicate attentions, such as the refreshingly scented towel, add an appreciable touch of refinement.

My chosen treatment: a deep tissue massage

I opted for a one-hour deep tissue oil massage, performed in a double cabin equipped with two beds and a private shower room. This treatment, combining depth and gentleness, proved particularly effective.

Products used: a toning and relaxing oil

The chosen oil, based on grapefruit and black pepper, has a subtle fragrance and both invigorating and soothing properties. The quality of the products contributes greatly to the sensory experience.

• The cool temperature of the waiting room can compromise comfort.

• The absence of tea before the treatment and small treats after the massage (fruit, cookies) leaves a slight impression of incompleteness.

• The massage table's headrest could be redesigned for optimum comfort.
